Good Morning! Hope everyone has had a great start to the week. I had my 1st baby calf of the season this weekend. I love this time of year. My last blog I talked about my weight loss struggles. I mentioned my DNA. I am now able to offer DNA testing that can give you an in depth look at your health. It can assist you in customizing your diet, exercise, and supplements to help you achieve your health goals. It will let you know if you are genetically predisposed for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It also tells you if you are deficit in vitamins. I was so excited to get mine done. No one knows except for my husband how hard I work and how clean my diet is trying to keep my weight off and achieve my goals. AND despite that sometimes I gain weight for no reason. For example, I was at a stand still with the exercise routine I was doing. I had been doing HIIT with Tabata workouts. My husband and 2 kids have great results with weight lifting so I thought I would give it a try. I was working out hard with a trainer 2 days a week and working on 2-3 other days on my own. After a few months we weighed and measured me again. I had grown in every area. Plus gained 8lbs and not in muscle. My clothes are tight and its all around my waist. I was devastated. Why did I do that. What did I do wrong. I had increased my protein. Did my cardio. No refined sugar, no diary, limited grains. So I had the Gene Snip DNA testing done. The wait for it to get back was LONG!! I felt in limbo because I wasn't sure what I needed to do as far as working out. When my results came back.... guess what? Weight lifting or resistance training makes me gain subcutaneous fat. WHAT? That sounds crazy. Well whether it does or not it is true. Based on my DNA I need cardio, endurance exercise. On a obesity scale of 1-10, mine was a 7.3 increased propensity to be obese. It even identified my lactose intolerance, my sensitivity to caffeine, and my increased taste to bitter things. While this SUCKS... now I know. I do not have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and I am not deficit in any vitamins. It mapped out my exercise and diet. I need 30% protein, 40% carbs, 30% fats. I have to avoid fat even health fats in moderation because my body like fat. It has given me a direction to go in and how best to achieve my goals. It doesn't mean its easy, but health is not a number on the scale. Sometimes it is hard to not get caught up in the numbers and sizes and what society thinks a woman should look like. But I have lots of energy, I am physically fit, I am strong, and I am beautiful just the size I am.
