Do ever think about your daily routine of getting ready for work and how many chemicals you expose yourself to? I didn't use to either. If you go through the steps its kind of scary. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash. Then whatever hair products you put in your wet hair. Hair spray or gel to finish it up. Lotion for your legs. Makeup for our faces. Deodorant, and toothpaste. We expose ourselves to over 500,000 chemicals in a year. 80% of cancer today is due to over exposure to toxins according to the World Health Organization. Our personal care products are just one area of concern. We also have tons of household cleaners, and never forget additives in our food supply. When my eyes were opened to all the chemicals and I wanted to start eliminating them from myself and my household, it was a overwhelming process. These are my top tips for decreasing your toxins.
1. Start with your food supply. This in itself is a long process. Buying organic produce or using the dirty dozen clean fifteen list. Reading labels. Checking for artificial sweeteners, and colors. Looking at MSG, BHA & BHT, nitrates. So many things to look for!
2. Personal care products. I started with toothpaste being fluoride free, deodorant being aluminum free, shampoo that is sodium laurel sulfate, paraben- free. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer. Pure shea butter is a great alternative for lotion or you can buy lotion without chemicals.
3. Household Cleaner. Using white vinegar and baking soda will eliminate most cleaners. White vinegar kills as many germs Clorox. Essential oils can added to make things smell nice. Making your own laundry detergent. There are lots of different recipes some liquid some powder. Using vinegar as fabric softener.
