How many of us take a supplement? It may be just a multivitamin but most of us take something. They are needed regardless of how healthy we eat believe it or not. Our food supply is not as healthy as it once was. We have depleted the nutrients in the soil, and we eat food from all over the world. When our farmers do not crop rotate appropriately the soil becomes deficient so our food doesn't get what it needs to supply our nutrients. The food we eat that comes from all around the world is picked before it is ripe and sprayed to keep it from ripening so quickly, then shipped to different places, and after it gets to store may lay on the produce shelf for a while. By the time we eat it, it may be a quarter as nutritious as it would have been if eaten soon as it was picked. From the time fruits and vegetables are picked they start losing nutrients. Imagine how depleted they are by the time we actually eat them. So...supplements are necessary. But which one do you choose? So many choices and the prices are very different. Many times the saying you get what you pay for is very true, but not always. I researched and studied before I chose a line to support. I wanted to make sure that I was recommending one that I thought was a clean line without fillers and junk in them. I am not saying that it is the absolute best out there, just saying that I feel good in supporting it and becoming a distributor. I chose Nutrametrix. They are a full line of supplements. Most of them are in isotonic delivery. Which means it is the same pressure as your blood, sweat, or tears. Our body recognizes it as part of us and it skips the stomach and is absorbed up to 95% in our intestines. It only makes sense to me that if it is liquid it is easier to absorb. Lots of times as a nurse I saw pills that came straight through patients. If you aren't absorbing it how much good is it doing you. I have my family taking these supplements. I myself take the essential pack, which is multivitamin, calcium plus, OPC3, & activated B. I take fish oil, probiotic, & vitamin D. My husband takes the essential pack as well as Aloe Vera juice. He has 2 spinal fusions and has chronic pain. He can tell a marked difference in taking OPC3 and Aloe Vera juice and doesn't want to be without them. For me, I can tell the biggest improvement with the activated B. I take it when I first wake up, and can feel the difference by the time I get out of the shower. Coffee isn't a wake me up, it is for pleasure because I enjoy the taste. Our son that we adopted is very tiny. This past spring the pediatrician wanted to send him to Cincinnati to a specialist because he is so tiny. I started him on the multi vitamin in May. He has grown 3 inches and gained 5 pounds. If you want good quality supplements, chances are you are not going to get them at Walmart or GNC. There are several good brands out there, just make sure you know what you are getting. Nine years ago my life was very different. We have four birth children and at that time three foster children. Their ages were 16, 12, 11, 9, 8, 6, & 3. I worked full time as a family support worker for the HANDS program at our local health department. To say that I was busy is an understatement. Laundry was a never ending battle, meals were large with big clean ups, and the floor always needed swept. I dropped off kids at every school before I went to work, and there was always somebody needing to be somewhere after work. I was overweight, tired and frustrated. I weighed 225 lbs at 5'4". My every moment was devoted to someone else. I never took any time for myself to do anything. I went non-stop and just switched hats all day until bedtime. Eventually I started to become resentful, grouchy and irritable. I saw a picture of me at my sister's baby shower and I was appalled that I was bigger than her and she was 9 months pregnant. I decided things had to change. I started making a lifestyle change. Healthier food choices that I could maintain for my life. I also started making time for myself to exercise. I was too embarrassed to go to the gym so I began to workout at home. I used the Wii fit and biggest loser workout videos. It was a new thing for my family for me to demand to be left alone, but I did it. Gradually as I became more fit I started going to the gym. I went at 6 am in the morning 3 days a week before I went to work. My husband did fine at getting the kids ready for school. And you know what?? I became a happier healthier person and was more ready to do things for everyone else. That was my 1st eye opened into self care. I didn't even realize at the time that it was self care, but I knew it felt good. Now years later after going to school to be a Holistic Health Coach I have learned the importance of self care a several different ways to incorporate it into my day. I am making it my goal to inspire other women to take time for themselves. You cannot give and give to others and not take anything back for yourself. You can not be the best wife, mother, friend, employee if you do not take the time to nourish yourself. I encourage several different types of self care techniques at home from exercise to detox baths. I am starting to host Women's Retreats and focus the entire weekend to nourishing ourselves. I just cam back from my 2nd Retreat in Red River Gorge. We had a fabulous time. I am already looking forward to planning the next one.
