Cooking for my family has always been important to me. I always make everyone gather around the table for our evening meal. We are not allowed to have TV on, or use their phones. Now mind you my meals were not always as healthy as they are now, but I made home cooked meals. The last few years I have worked on creating healthier meals for us. It is a struggle sometimes when you are busy, get in late from work, or the kids have extra-curricular activities that start after school. Trying to fit everything in becomes a challenge. But I believe that the benefits far exceed the planning and preparation for feeding them healthy food. Here are a few tips that I use.
- Plan out a menu based on what your week looks like. On days that you know you will be late buy food to cook quicker.
- Plan ahead on days that you know you won’t have time to cook by either cooking meal in slow cooker or have prepared meal ahead of time and just reheat it.
- Always have a quick meal available in the cabinet! I keep organic spaghetti sauce and noodles, and Garden of Life taco kits.
- Cook once eat twice. Cook extra grains, meat etc so you can have enough for more than one meal.
- Make soups, stews for more than one day meals.
