People ask me all the time what should I do to start eating healthier. I tell them to start small and work on it a little at a time. Changing the way you eat is a process. Trying to reach a goal of healthy is a continued goal. If you went into your pantry and said I’m getting rid of everything that is unhealthy, it would be over whelming! Making small changes a little at a time is more achievable. Add foods into your diet instead of removing them at first. When I made the decision to eat clean, I started with just adding in more vegetables. I stopped looking at the price of them and just put them in my buggy. At first it was a scary concept, but if I followed the rule of making my grocery cart look like a rainbow and stayed away from the center of the grocery store the bill wasn’t more than before. And I won’t lie I spent lots of time at the grocery store deciding what to buy. Then I switched to clean meat. All of the antibiotics, steroids and hormones that they pump in our meat supply is unreal. Buying ASH meat is VERY important in being healthy. Next I started cutting out processed foods. That is a big one. If you think about what is a food, you realize very quickly that the center aisles of the grocery store have food like products, not food. So if you want a packaged food less ingredients are better and if you can pronounce the words…even better. You can be the judge of how clean you want to go. Everyone is different and has different ideas of how far they are willing to go. It has taken me almost 2 years to get to where I am. I am constantly reading and searching for information and then applying it. And if you have kids, I just try to make better choices for them. I still allow them to have cereal; just try to buy organic cereal. I still buy them chips, just ones that have potatoes, oil, and salt. Just remember there are no rules and its what works for you.
