How many times do you set goals for yourself and not follow through? Especiallly related to your health. We automatically know at beginning of the year is when people start dieting and going to the gym. Stores prepare for it, Tv ads are geared for it. And then... few weeks later most quit.
What is it that keeps us from reaching our goals? Even if we want them(we think) really bad? Have you ever ask yourself why? If your big goal for yourself is to lose weight and be healthy what stops you? What is it that causes you to give up even if you have had some success. That is what separates the ones that succeed from the ones that get stuck in the same patterns of behaviors? Guess what weight loss starts in your head. Your body is capable of amazing things its your mind you have to convince. Here are 5 steps that I use to reach my goals.
1. Write down your goal!! Put it in your view. If it is not written down it is just a dream.
2. Write down your WHY. Why you want to reach this goal. What does it mean to you for you to be able to reach your goal?
3. Write down steps to get to your goal. Break it down into small achievable goals.
example: Big goal you want to lose 100lbs. That is a daunting task! But if you break it down to 10lbs by a certain date and you reach that goal it feels great.
4. Realize that not reaching your goal in time frame you wanted is not failing.
It is your JOURNEY!
Last year I set a goal to run a 5k in 30 minutes. I did not reach that goal. The fastest I ran was 32 minutes. That doesn't mean I failed. It means I try harder this year, and I learned more about myself and how I need to train.
5. Find an accountability partner. As a health coach that is what I am. I make people accountable to some one. A support person is huge to reaching your goals.
Remember getting healthy is a journey. Small steps lead to big changes. It takes time so dont be hard on yourself. Making healthier choices every day will lead you your goals.
